Becoming a VA: Getting your First Client In a Month

Freelancing, Virtual Assistant, a Digital Nomad using only your laptop and a fast and secured internet connection, that’s all you need, you’re all set to work at home, or literally, anywhere.
With many business now relying on digital connection, online presence and marketing, and even operations. Having skill set, confidence and experience in this profession has exponential growth. Innovation is like drinking water, you will die if you stopped doing it.

Freelancer Vs. Employment

The answer to this question will depend on your situation and temperament. Both have their own virtues, you basically just have to choose which one is applicable to you and your priorities.

Freelancing
Freedom – you have the freedom to decide where your career will head. No one will tell or mandate you what to do. You literally have to train yourself, look for clients, buy your tools, etc. Compared to being employed, every skill, asset or resources will be deployed by your company. All you have to do is just show up and work.
Gap in terms of pay, comfort/convenience (depending on your living conditions. The pay is truly different, freelancing is more rewarding, as long as you learned how to chose and how to negotiate. There’s no singular process. This is the Wild West, everything here is in the table.
Get multiple clients – getting here is a process. This needs commitment and experience, incredible time management skills is essential to this because. Working on 1 client is good to establish yourself and gain experience, but eventually, expanding with multiple clients is

This work provides you freedom and growth
Don’t get me wrong, manual labor and skill will still rule the majority, but even the majority is high-wired online.
Online jobs are like fishes in the ocean, and you have a fishing rod, so you can capture 1 at a time.

Many people think that it’s easy to be a VA, that earning 6 digits in peso will happen in 3-6 months, it does not. A lot of work, is needed to get there. You need to build your foundation first, understand that this work is about. You have to understand what we do in general and how important our work is. Many people are scared that their jobs may get replaced by AI, but the thing is that, people needs people. As long as we are working for people, there’s work for us, digital, online. We are operators.

What do you need to do to start?

Starting is the most difficult part of the process, because you have no experience, you have no idea. You are literally blind. The best way to start is by putting your next foot forward.
One step at a time.

Week 1: Create onlinejobs.ph account.
Asses your
Complete your profile, take the tests.
Go to the “Job Board” and start looking for jobs.
Identify 5 jobs,
– Read the job description
– Do a quick research of the company, get an idea of what their business is.
– Copy the job description and ask Chat GPT to create a cover letter. Review cover letter before sending.
– Provide what the client is asking, like voice recording or video recording. Start with a voice recording, avoid those who are asking a lot. Choose.
– Complete 5 applications per day. Save it in a tracker. (Download tracker here)
Respond to any all replies within 24 hours, the longer the response time, the more chances diminishes.
Use this client intake form during interviews to guide you as well in asking questions and to better understand your client.



Week 2, Create LinkedIn.
If you have not been hired by week 1, we will move to week 2. This week, you will excerpt more effort into the process. You will add more actions as you gain more experience.
By the second week, you should have a little bit of familiarity with some tools, like Chat GPT, Google (Gmail, Sheets, Calendar, Gmeets), OLJ navigation, Vocaroo, Zoom.
Create an account with LinkedIn. Complete and update your profile. Utilize Chat GPT all through out the process. (Check process here)
Add 5 more job application, from LinkedIn.
By this week, you should start managing your Calendar as invitation for interviews my start to come, at least start learning about Calendar.
– Save interview schedules in Google Calendar. Provide detailed Notes about the Interview.

By this week, you should be able to get experience with an interview. Communications is very important in this work, if you want to be independent and be able to manage your dealings with clients, having a strong communication skill is a must. Continue building this skill through practice, role play and experience.

Week 3: Create Job Street
Why Jobstreet? Honestly, jobstreet hs a lot of job listings, although base on my experience, the conversion rate with job street is very low for me. But still you can add jobstreet to increase you’re application to 15 per day.

From this time, you should be gaining confidence in applying for jobs.
Use this week to continue learning about interviews and apps that you have encountered.
Keep track of the apps that you have encountered.
Learn US/World Geography – This is important, for you to gain wider knowledge of geography as it helps with rapport and credibility

Week 4:
Create an Indeed account
Continue to track your progrress. As you continue to attend interviews, you will build up your confidence and you will eventually get that first client.
